150 FREE PICS FOR INDIE AUTHORS

I just got this email, thought I'd share for other indie authors who may find themselves in my situation.

Late last year I finally enrolled in the Kindle Unlimited program. Since I write a lot of short stories it’s perfect for me. Of course this turned upside down my publishing schedule for 2015.

Obviously releasing more books means more covers. But I never realized how many images it would take me to create them. I’m not a graphic designer, so in order to make a single cover I need to play with a lot of pics until I get the right images together.

Lots of trial and error.

And that means lots of credits in Depositphotos or worse, $10 a pop images in Shutterstock.

I was stuck for a while, not knowing what to do. That’s why it took me so long to jump into KU. I just couldn’t afford that many pics.

I knew I was missing on a lot of sales and borrows so the opportunity to grab 150 free pics really caught my attention.

The website is called Kozzi ( www.kozzi.com). It’s like the Bookbub of stock photos because they offer bloggers and authors bargain prices on royalty free images.

I’ve already bought credits from them so I decided to investigate further.

Here’s the details:

For a limited time you can join for 30 days free and download any 150 royalty-free photos, illustrations and vector images you choose at no cost. Fully licensed, without size restrictions.

You can cancel at any time before the month is up and you won’t be billed. The 150 images are yours to keep. If you decide to go for a second month they charge you $4.95 for another 150 batch of pictures and you lock in the discounted price forever. (The regular price for the monthly membership is $14.95).

So I decided to give it a go although I’m somewhat wary of free trial offers. I once signed up with Bigstock for a 7-day trial subscription and they made me jump through hoops everytime I tried to download a picture.

I’m happy to say I had no problems whatsoever with Kozzi.

I could download the high res max size pics without a hitch. That’s incredible useful because I always choose the large format so I can crop any area of the photo, essentially zooming in and making the image my own.

Also, it’s really easy to cancel your subscription. You click a link in your account area and it’s done. Very straightforward.

The only drawback I see is the search function. Not all that helpful. It’s not worse than the ones in Dreamstime or Depositphotos, but why do they have to let photographers tag their images?

A site like this with a gazillion images should have an advanced algorithm or something to make it more user-friendly.

Anyway, a small bother for 150 free pics.

UPDATE: I’m writing this on April 2015. If by the time you read this the above link is not working anymore, you can try visiting their homepage instead: http://www.kozzi.com, to check if they have a similar offer available.
